Get to Know Winston
Winston grew up around construction. His great-grandfather was a real estate investor and builder, his grandfather Leonard Widdes started “Widdes Construction” and his 3 sons working with him.
Among the many projects they did over the years, they built 185 units in Thousand Oaks, CA. Winston was about 5 or 6 years old, and they named a street after him, Wynn Ct., and it is still there today!
Scott eventually moved to San Diego to open his roofing company, and years later Zack (Winston’s dad) moved his family to San Diego too.
Right out of high school Winston knew he wanted to be wealthy. Well, really he wanted to be free to play music and live a comfortable lifestyle, and that and he knew that real estate was a powerful tool to make that happen.
After he graduated he started going to community college to work on his degree in Music, meanwhile he started working with a friend swinging hammers, putting on roofs, putting in floors, demo, etc.
They started working for a guy named Rich, who was flipping houses in Ocean Beach, CA.
Rich became a good friend and mentor to Winston, and Winston got to help do the rehab work on a number of houses, and Winston learned a lot.
Rich convinced Winston to “stay in school” and get his BA degree and go to the best school he can. Winston hadn’t really thought about it that much, but now he was determined to do so.
Winston got into UC Berkeley to study Music, and eventually graduated with honors!
Once he got back to San Diego, he didn’t want to swing hammers anymore, so he got his real estate license.
He hung his license with Century 21 Award and quickly became a top producer.
He really wanted to start working with investors, and start building his own portfolio, but he really didn’t know how.
Over the years he did real estate in the mornings, taught music during the day, and DJ’d at night. He called that his “trifecta.”
Then, a parent of twins that he taught piano and guitar, said she wanted to get into flipping houses. She knew Winston was an agent and they worked out a plan.
Winston sold homes for her as the listing agent, and with his unique business model and marketing systems he helped her sell over $5 million in real estate in a 9 month period.
As Winston’s first son got older, and with a second on the way, Winston decided he didn’t want to be on the road all over town teaching and playing gigs anymore. He wanted to stay in one place and do one thing for a while.
He decided to put his many years of marketing to use in the form of creating a marketing agency. He set about looking for clients, and stumbled upon an ad that read, “Are you a Marketing Guru?!”
Hmm, he wasn’t sure he would call himself that, but he kept reading…
“Do you like Internet Marketing? (YES!)
Do you like Real Estate? (YES!)
Do you like teaching? (YES!)
Then apply to be an Internet Marketing Consultant to our Real Estate Investor students!”
He couldn’t believe it!
He had never heard of anything like that, but it sounded incredible, so he applied.
It was for a little company called Mind Protein, and that was a little sister company of a company called Fortune Builders.
Fortune Builders was a real estate education company founded by the TV stars of the show, Flip This House.
Winston got the job, and fell in love with consulting. He worked with thousands of investors over the years and still takes some consulting students to this day.
Through Fortune Builders Winston was able to invest alongside the owners in a commercial syndication rehabbing a strip mall in Georgia.
Winston’s wife Elena manages short and long term rentals and Winston helps with the short term rentals.
When he isn’t doing real estate he’s spending time with his wife and two kids, at home or at the lake, or training jiu-jitsu.
